Eligibility
Am I eligible to apply?
Here is what Avoir looks for from a Tasmania business. We work with businesses trading 12 months or more; individual lender minimums vary and are set by the lender, not by us. Meeting our criteria makes a business eligible to apply. It does not mean an application will be approved.
*Subject to lender credit criteria.
The economy
The Tasmania business economy
Tasmania has 44,244 actively trading businesses — a smaller economy, but a broad-based one. Construction leads at 7,825 businesses, with a proportionally large primary sector (5,472 in agriculture, forestry and fishing) and a tourism-driven accommodation and food sector of 2,451.
Tasmania is overwhelmingly a small-business state, and its trading rhythm is seasonal — tourism peaks, harvest cycles, and a construction sector that feels the timing of large projects sharply. Its regulatory settings sit close to the eastern mainstream, which the sections below set out.

Getting paid
Getting paid in Tasmania
Tasmania's payment regime is the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2009 (Tas), an East Coast-model scheme like those in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. A claimant serves a payment claim, the respondent replies with a payment schedule, and a disputed claim can go to adjudication. It is the statutory mechanism that keeps progress payments moving down the contracting chain.
Licensing
Licensing and financial requirements
Building and occupational licensing in Tasmania is administered by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS). Tasmania does not run a Queensland-style standing turnover-and-net-tangible-assets test as a licence condition, so the structure of your equipment finance does not carry a direct licensing consequence. Lenders will still assess the balance sheet on its own terms.
Payroll tax
Payroll tax in Tasmania
Tasmanian payroll tax applies once Australian taxable wages exceed $1.25 million a year, with a two-tier rate: 4% ($1.25M–$2M); 6.1% above $2M. These are the 2025-26 figures from the State Revenue Office Tasmania, verified 10 July 2026. Confirm the current figure before acting on it.
Heavy vehicles
Heavy vehicle regulation
Tasmania is inside the Heavy Vehicle National Law, administered by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR). A Tasmanian-registered heavy vehicle is regulated under the national framework, and — allowing for Bass Strait — the same accreditation and fatigue rules carry across to the mainland states that participate.
What it means for finance
What this means for how you finance
Tasmania does not have a distinctive regulatory hook that changes a finance decision — and padding one in would not help a Tasmanian business. What does matter here is seasonality. In a state where a large share of revenue arrives in tourism peaks and harvest windows, the risk is funding twelve months of fixed repayments out of a few strong months.
The practical answer is to match finance to the cash-flow shape: asset finance structured so repayments are comfortable in the quiet season, and a working-capital facility to carry wages and stock through the trough rather than draining the buffer built in peak. Model the repayment against your leanest quarter, not your best one.

FAQ
Tasmania business finance: common questions
Can a seasonal Tasmanian business get finance?
Yes. Seasonality is normal in Tasmania, and lenders in our network are used to it. What matters is that repayments are sustainable across your quiet season — structure the facility around your leanest quarter. Avoir works with businesses trading 12 months or more.
Do I need property security for a business loan in Tasmania?
No. Unsecured business loans are assessed on cash flow and trading history, and asset finance is secured against the equipment. Neither requires property.
What is the minimum revenue for a Tasmanian business loan?
Most lenders look for around $10,000 per month. Individual lender minimums vary and are set by the lender, not by Avoir.
How fast can a Hobart or regional Tasmanian business get funded?
Same-day decisions are common with non-bank lenders, with funds typically transferred within 24 hours of approval, across Hobart, Launceston and regional Tasmania. Timeframes are set by the lender.
